Angling Days

Angling Days

by David Tipping

Angling is a common interest shared by many people, but take a randomly selected group, such as might gather in a tackle shop on a Saturday morning, and it will be found that many anglers actually have little in common. Even within the sport, tastes and preferences vary widely. However, few anglers will fail to find something of interest in the evocative collection of memorable angling days contained within these pages.

David Tipping was never one to confine his fishing to a single species or a handful of venues, nor to be deterred by such minor complications as snow, gale force winds or banks thick with nettles and brambles. And while his preference was always for targeting bigger than average fish, he never lost sight of the fact that a lesser specimen, caught in challenging circumstances, could be equally rewarding.

These snapshots from an angler's life are correspondingly varied. The author takes us to derelict, reed and lily-smothered canals, bleak, wind-swept clay pits, tumbling north-country rivers and vast, fathomless. glacial lakes as he seeks to add to his tally of specimens and rare species. There is something here to excite and inspire anglers of all tastes.

I could tell you even before I read it, Angling Days was never going to be a 'how to do it' book. As is David's way, it will entertain you. It is more than likely that this book will prove educational to you, be it in terms of Dave's undoubted angling knowledge or his enthusiasm for nature.

"One thing I can guarantee though, is that if you are anything like me, it will inspire you. David has an uncanny knack of rousing enthusiasm for subjects of which the reader was previously unaware or disinterested. . ."
From the Foreword by Tim Ridge, June 2006
