Below the Weir

Below the Weir

by Peter Rogers

Few fish have captivated anglers to such an extent as the legendary trout of the Thames and yet, despite an absence in the river for more than half a century, this enigmatic creature continues to fascinate despite relatively little literature having been devoted to the species.

In producing this book, Peter Rogers has sought to redress this position in compiling a volume that not only brings together the most significant writings on the subject in one work, but has supplemented this with lesser known yet equally interesting essays, linked to the theme. Drawn from the pens of some of its earliest recorded exponents, through many of the angling greats of the Victorian and Edwardian times to the acknowledged Master of Thames trout fishing, A.E. Hobbs during its final productive years; all have their tales to tell within these pages.

Spanning a period of more than 100 years, Below the Weir charts the rise and decline of the species in the river, and along the way, gives not only a wonderful insight into the angling practices of the day and the Gentlemen anglers who, by dint of privilege, had the means and opportunity to seek such a coveted prize; but evocatively brings to life a time long since gone when the river was still an unspoilt rural idyll. Wonderfully illustrated throughout by Paul Cook.

It is an open edition with the first 500 copies signed by the publisher, plus only 25 copies fully bound leather.

The full leather bindings are limited to 2 per customer.

Each leather copy is bound in Oasis goatskin with gold tooled front, back boards and spine.

The books all have title labels, raised spine bands, marker ribbons, head bands and are all supplied with handmade slip cases.
